Change that we can believe in

Can UMNO change,well here I outline few reasons why they can't and can base on UMNO history,current situation and the just concluded UMNO general assembly.

WHY THE CAN:
1)The newly elected UMNO office bearers are of better caliber than the last one.Such names are Zahid Hamidi(VP),Saifudin Abdullah,Mustapha Muhammad,Dr Puad Zarkashi,Noh Omar(all supreme council members accept stated otherwise) and the corruption aside Khairy Jamaludin(youth head).So these names can bring effective change due to the intellectual capability (Mustapha and Saifudin),the political will(khairy Jamaludin).

2)UMNO members know that the stakes are high and the only way to stay out of the museum is to reform themselves.So these leaders can use the survival card to gain support for change.

3)With Mahathir coming to UMNO,Mahathir can give meaningful advice to UMNO about how to change.Mahathir had changed UMNO before,remember from teacher-based party to professionals and technocrats,from feudalistic and culture-based to pragmatic and progress based.So Mahathir should be able to change UMNO again this time around.

However,why they can't
1)UMNO is still in denial.They haven't accepted responsibility that the BN poor showing in the last General Election is due to UMNO's arrogance,rudeness,ego and other negative traits.

2)Their ideology of Malay supremacy had been their ideology since it's founding,thus the need to attack other races will be needed to prove your loyalty to the ideology.As long as that happens the opposition,with a good strategy,can retain the massive non-malays vote in the general election,causing UMNO to become more radical in their views to assure they will win the Malay votes necessary for their stay in power and survival.

3)The behaviour of the UMNO grassroots and leaders(branch leaders and so on) may cause some difficulty as their support is necessary forUMNO politicians to prosper in UMNO,so these politicians might have to sing their tunes and please them.So far based on what these leaders said,they have not changed and it will be tough for them to do so.

So,they you go,there's my view,to find out more we must observe whether they are changes or not,meaningful changes not some plaster job.Anyway if they don't change we will have the honour of changing them,hopefully they will still be around after the people change job is completed and not end up in some museum and history text book completely gone in the present time.
